Let's Hunt Longlac
Ontario
With thousands of miles of roads
to hunt in Longlac Ontario the hunters have no problem filling their quota. You
are allowed a daily limit of 5 sharp-tailed grouse, possession limit of 15 and
a daily limit combined of 5 for ruffed grouse and spruce grouse, possession
limit of 15, for a total of 30 birds to take home.
The Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and
Sharptail Grouse are abundant in this part of Longlac in Northwestern Ontario.
Great hunting on the many logging roads and back trails around Longlac.
Ruffed Grouse
Hunting Camp
The ruffed grouse is Ontario's most
common grouse and one of the largest, measuring up to 18 inches. The ruffed
grouse spends most of its life on the floor of the Longlac forests. Young aspen
trees provide great cover, particularly for drumming males. In winter the
ruffed grouse likes to eat the buds of the aspen. The ruffed grouse is
almost invisible to its predators, thanks to the feathers in gray and brown
with small patches of black and white. The name ruffed comes from a row of
dark feathers, called a ruff, around its neck. The bird can raise up and lower
its ruff and the small crest on top of its head. After mating, the female
makes her nest at the bottom of a tree and lays one egg a day until she has 12
to 14 eggs. As Longlac ruffed grouse hunters know, the population of grouse
goes up and down about every 10 years.
Ruffed Grouse, Partridge and Spruce
Grouse flourish in the thousands of acres of crown forest that surround
Lochlomond Hunt Camp. Miles of access roads and ATV trails make for ideal fall
bird hunting in the bush trails with nothing less than breath taking scenery.
The bush trails with the rise of the birds, singing of the guns, the smell of
the pines then friendly comradeship back at the camp will not long be
forgotten. ATV's and dogs are both welcome guests for the hunt as long as they
are kept under control.
Ducks abound the river, swamps and
lakes in our district. James Bay Canadian Ducks migrate through in September,
making the camp and ideal place to base your migratory bird hunt from. Set up a
party with a couple of good buddies, bring your decoys, dogs and have a blast
of a good time.
Our grouse, Spruce grouse and
Partridge, hunting was described as nothing less than amazing by our guests in
past years. The bush roads and trails that the birds filter onto in the fall,
from the bush to sun themselves, make perfect hunting conditions. You don't
even need a dog!
Longlac area in Northwestern Ontario
has two color of Ruffed Grouse; Rust and Grey, as well as Spruce Grouse. Our
Grouse live in all natural habitat consisting of a mixed forest of Aspen,
Spruce and Birch trees, and tend to roost in evergreens in the Fall and Winter
months. They are capable of bursts of flight up to 100 yards. The natural
habitat produces two hatches per season, which is why there are over 1 million
birds taken every Fall without affecting the population. In fact, the Longlac
area is designated as having the highest and most consistent population of
Grouse in Ontario by the Ministry of Natural Resources. Large and thriving
populations of partridge, spruce, ruffed and sharp tail grouse make the region
a great place for upland game birds. You will find our Sharp Tails in previous
logged areas. Hunters will also enjoy top notch bird and waterfowl hunting in
our area.
Lochlomond Hunt Camp is located in
Canada's finest hunting grounds.
